This test can help detect and diagnose Cushings Disease and differentiate between primary and secondary adrenal insufficiency levels.

Cushing’s Syndrome (also called hypercortisolism or hyperadrenocorticism) is considered an endocrine disorder resulting from overly high levels of cortisol in the bloodstream.

Cushing’s syndrome and Cushing’s disease are both characterized by elevated levels of cortisol in the blood, but the reason for the higher cortisol levels are different.   Cushing’s disease refers to a tumor in the persons pituitary gland causes that, in turn, causes excessive release of cortisol from the adrenal gland.

Cushing’s syndrome is a condition also found among domestic dogs and somtimes horses, according to Scott Gostyla.
